On a whim..

This song has been haunting me for the past few days. The beautiful lyrics kept growing on me till I had to make a pathetic attempt at translation...but at least, I got it off my mind..:)

Kabhi kabhi mere dil mein khayal aata hai
Sometimes, the thought crosses my mind
Ki jaise tujhko banayaa gaya hai mere liye
That you've been made just for me..

Tu abse pehle sitaron main bas rahi thi kahin
You were a dweller of the stars before
Tujhe zameen pe bulaayaa gaya hai mere liye
You've been summoned to earth just for me

Kabhi Kabhi mere dil mein khayal aata hai
Sometimes the thought crosses my mind that
Ki yeh badan, yeh nigahen meri amaanat hai
This body and these eyes were preserved just for me
Yeh gesuon ki ghani chaav hai meri khaatir
That these dark tresses of your hair are for me alone..
Yeh hot aur yeh baahen meri amaanat hai
That these lips and these arms are solely in my care...

Kabhi Kabhi mere dil mein, khayal aata hai
Sometimes the thought crosses my mind that
Ki jaise bajthi hai, shehnaaiyaan si raahon mein
Just as the shenaai strikes a tune somewhere
Suhaag raat hai ghuunghat uta rahaa hoon main
I am lifting your bridal veil on our wedding night
Simat rahi hai tuu sharmaake apni baahoon mein
And you are blushing shyly in my arms...

Kabhi Kabhi mere dil mein, khayaal aata hai
Sometimes the thought crosses my mind
Ki jaise tu mujhe chaahegi umr bhar yoon hi
That you'll love me like this for life
Uthegi meri taraf pyaar kii nazar yoon hi
And caress me with a loving gaze always
Main jaanta hoon ki tu gair hai magar yoon hi
I know you're just a stranger, nevertheless
Kabhi Kabhi mere dil mein, khayal aata hai
Sometimes the thought crosses my mind...

Lovely song indeed.. No wonder Amitabh wanted re-live allover again with the remix a few years ago.. That was among the best remix songs I have seen..
BTW, the original songs is something which will put me to sleep anytime I listen to it in the bed.
I have just gone made with a couple of songs and had a post on them just yesterday.

subha,

I remember listening to a very sweet ... kinda remixed version of this song on MTV looooooooong time back... was by some guy under the name "Dal" ( i am not sure about this...but remember the way i saw it on TV, through sleepy eyes..:))

the song was "Always" and for the lines "Kabhi Kabhi mere dil mein" - he sang "Always Always I think of you" .... was a pretty good number and decently sung.. have been searching for it for years but in vain.. :(

One of my favorite Hindi songs, Mukesh, tune! What a song.!

I remember my younger days, when I used to listen to this song at 8.00 am in the mornings in Srilanka Radio ( the movie just got released..and only Radio Srilanka played new songs).

This was written by Sahir Ludhianvi, probably the best poet and lyricist that the Hind cinema has ever seen.

The English remake of this song was by Dal Dil Vog, from here in Canada. It was called "Always" and although I still own the original cassette, you can hear it yourself on dilvog.com as it was re-released on a newer album.

To add on to my previous post, Dal's original album that the song first appeared on was called "Beat the rap"
