Senthamizh Nadennum...

I was driving back home for lunch this afternoon. It is a glorious day here at Lexington with azure blue skies and trees and flowers in full bloom! Anyways, I was listening to Maharajapuram Santhanam's rendition of "Senthamizh Nadennum.." in Mohana Kalyani. The hot, sunny weather reminding me of days spent in Srirangam coupled with Bharathiyar's timeless words, the mellifluous raaga and Maharajapuram's voice transported me to another world for some five minutes! When I got out of the car, I had an indescribable tranquil feeling. I was moved enough to devote one post to it..:)

drive safe...i almost got a speeding ticket once when i was listening to fast-beat songs...when i checked the speed, it read 100 mph !
...and no doubt that Bharatiyaar is a genius...kudos to the man.

Subha, read somewhere that according to some Harvard research, Indian classic music is good for the nerves. I think that is what u experienced today. I've been rejuvenated many times when I was down too. Aren't we lucky to be Indians?

I beleive,

Any melodious music soothes our nerves, listen to the moonlight sonata and the famous 9th symphony by Beethoven and Magic flute and Ode to Joy of Mozart ... u will be transported to some other world.

Harvard need not be the evaluator for the judging the serenity of our music. Any music in which you can identify the soul of the composer will move you to tears. Not only indians but people all over the world are lucky.

Didn't mean to be rather harsh on the previous comment...

As for Maharajapuram's renditions Mahaganapathim is my favourite.

Good one!

Now that someone has asked for it, Harvard research was trying to find out why listening to Indian classical music decreased the chances of getting Alzheimer's disease.....They were not trying to prove that Indian music is the best...

I love listening to Mozart and Beethoven too but still Indian classical music has that special something...that's my point...
