In my random afternoon browsing , I ran across this article about the war in Congo. Incidentally, NPR ran a feature about the same war yesterday in their "All Things Considered" program. I suppose I should be used to these kinds of brutalities now after hearing about Darfur, Iraq, Afghanistan etc...But I am not and I felt an overwhelming physical urge to just throw up after reading this article..:( Having to hang your own baby with your hands?! Jeez.

But the maturity of this woman is stunning. Hats off to her!

Zawadi has one big wish. She wants the Interahamwe, the Rwandan Hutu
militia, driven from the forests of Congo. "Do you also," I ask her,
"want these men, the ones who destroyed your family, to be punished,
tracked down and killed for what they did?"
Her answer is the same as a year ago: "No I don't. I still feel
that I don't want those people to be killed. I know that God will judge
them."

It is the trust of the people in the divinity that the people maintains, no matter what, that need to be appreciated, like in the case of this woman. Also, this woman is the sufferer, and she may be able to take it due to her inability to avoid the persecution of others. But, at the same time, sitting idle in the name of GOD is bad for those who are empowered to act in the world. Since, empowerment of anyone is done not for sitting idle, when, needed, but to use it in a wise way, to reduce the suffering of the others. This includes even violent ways, if the non-violent ways are not understood by the abusers of human rights.

REMEMBER ONE THING: WE SHOULD BE GOOD AND AT THE SAME TIME, WE SHOULD STRIVE TO NOT LET OTHERS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR GOOD BEHAVIOR. Swami Ramakrishna Paramahamsa tells below story:

There was a violent and aggressive snake living on the border of a village. It was so powerful and violent, that people used to get scared even at hearing its name and people used to aviod to go to those surroundings all together.

One day, an enlightened saint had came to that village and after taking rest for a while in that village that day, the saint had started to other place, and in that way, he started to head towards the side of the village, where the snake was living. Having seen this, the villagers had warned that he should not go in that direction as it leads to the vicinity of hte snake. But the saint, being an enlightened one who had implicitly established unity with the all the creatures, out of his high level of enlightment, had smiled and headed towards that direction.
Now the snake came towards him aggressively and violently, and after coming near to the saint, the snake got attracted to his enlightened state and of his affectionate approach towards it and became calm and showed respect to the saint. The saint, after spending some time with it, told it to abondon the violent ways & tells it to practice a particular technique, which helps it to shred its violent ways completely and move towards enlightement and then the saint leaves that place.

Now, the snake being completely changed, had started living very good life and all together stopped terrorizing people. After seeing this change in the snake, people started slowly moving in that area as well. After a while, people all together stopped afraid of it. At this point, some kids while playing in that area, had started persecuting this snake by throwing stines and sticks at it etc, and made its life terrible. The snake could not even go out of its underground home and due to lack of food, it started loosing its health, but still it was very much sincerely practicing the techniques that were told by his master. After this continued for a while, the snake came to the point where it is on the brink of dying. At that point, the saint who had changed the way the snake looks at the world, had happened to go by that direction and then suddenly remembered this snake and then went in to that snakes underground home and scalled it. By recognizing the voice, the snake came out and fell at the feet of the saint. Out of surprise, the saint asked it about how it ended in this weak and dying situation, which was not the situation that it was in when he first saw it long back. The snake explained the entire episode. upon hearing it, the saint laughed at it for its foolishness saying that "I HAD NOT ASKED YOU TO BITE ANY ONE WITH YOUR VENOM, BUT I DIDNOT DENY YOU TO HISS AT SOMEONE WHO WANT TO PERSECUTE YOU". Upon listening to it, the snake understood that subtle difference of what his master had said and from then onwards, had lives peaceful and happy life.

WE SHOULD NOT HAVE SUCH A GOODNESS THAT PEOPLE START TAKING IT FOR GRANTED.

Did u by any luck had a chance to watch 'The Last King of Scotland'? I have no clue (other than Gasoline) why the so called helping American govt not wage a war against men like Idi Amin or the leader in Congo.... All they do is go for Columbian Cartels, or Castro or Iraq.... All it takes is a dedicated afro american sniper to finish the job.... :(
